The Gambia is a strong place for a quiet early start with binoculars, and we can help with transport and a route that makes sense for your stay. Abuko Nature Reserve is a good option from the coast: it was established in 1968, covers 107 hectares and has more than 270 recorded bird species. Tanji Bird Reserve is another useful stop, with about 300 recorded species across beach, lagoon and woodland.
We can arrange a driver for the day, combine a reserve with a coastal stop or help you reach the upriver route if you have longer. We do not promise sightings. Birds and wildlife set their own timetable, so we plan enough time to walk slowly rather than moving from place to place too quickly. Tell us what you hope to see and how much walking you are comfortable with.
Our local tip is to go early, use proper shoes and keep water with you. If birds are your main reason for coming, ask us about arranging a local bird guide. They spot far more than most visitors do on a first walk.
