Your day, step by step

Pick up from the coast and drive south towards Tanji.
See the fishing beach and, if timing works, watch the boats come in.
Visit the nearby coast and bird-reserve area.
Continue to Sanyang for sand, a swim or grilled fish.
Return to your hotel after the beach stop.

Why we like this day

This is the half day for people who want to see the coast working, then slow down somewhere quieter. We start at Tanji, where painted wooden boats, fish smoking and the afternoon catch make the beach busy and full of life. Tanji Bird Reserve was established in 1993, covers 612 hectares and includes the Bijol Islands. About 300 bird species have been recorded there.

After Tanji, we continue south to Sanyang or another beach stop that suits your day. Sanyang has wide sand and beach bars where you can have grilled fish. It is an easy contrast with the fishing village and a good way to leave the busy coast behind for a few hours. We can keep it simple or allow more time for lunch and the sea.

Our local tip is to time Tanji for late afternoon if you want to see the boats come in. Ask before taking close-up photos of people. For swimming, the Atlantic can have strong currents: go where local people swim, do not swim alone and do not go out far.
